Antipyretics: Since Mucinex (guaifenesin) DM does not contain acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), these common over the counter pain and fever reducing medications can be used along with Mucinex (guaifenesin) DM without concern of drug interaction.

If you have a fever, you can help reduce it with acetaminophen. Many Mucinex® products contain acetaminophen, which is an analgesic and fever reducer. “Analgesic” is a fancy way of saying “pain reliever.” Acetaminophen should help bring your fever down, as well as relieve minor aches and pains, headache and sore throat.

Medicine with acetaminophen can help reduce fever symptoms. Be wary of combining acetaminophen and any other over-the-counter medications, which often contain acetaminophen as well. Adults should never exceed a total dose of 4000mg of acetaminophen in any 24-hour period.

Taking more than 4000 mg or taking lower doses combined with alcohol can lead to liver damage. Hence, no more than 4000 mg in a 24 hour period and do not take acetaminophen with alcohol.
