Your third stimulus payment can't be seized to pay child support. Under the CARES Act from March 2020, your first stimulus check could be seized by state and federal agencies to cover past-due child support. That rule changed for the second stimulus check, which couldn't be taken if you owe money for child support.

2nd and 3rd Stimulus Payments (COVID Relief Bill) Your 2nd stimulus payment (approved January 2021) and 3rd stimulus payment (approved March 2021) cannot be garnished to pay child support. Under the CARES Act, your 1st stimulus payment (approved April 2020) could be garnished, but the rule was changed for the 2nd and 3rd payments.

The IRS is not permitted to take your stimulus money for things like unpaid student loans or back child support. However, CNET explains that if “you are filing for any missing stimulus money as a Recovery Rebate Credit on your tax return this year, the IRS can potentially garnish that money to pay for any back taxes you owe.”
